9/11 Remembrance Tree
The Al Raby School for Community and the Environment organized a “Day of Remembrance” event in honor of 9/11.
During our Day of Remembrance event, the Fire and Police Departments that assisted the New York City Fire and Police Departments in the rescue mission after the 9/11 attacks spoke with classes of students, giving them firsthand accounts of why we need to remember that day.
In honor of those who lost their lives as they attempted to save the lives of others on that day, the heroes in attendance helped us to plant a crab apple tree in front of our building as a memorial to those brave individuals. In this role, our heroes shoveled the first soil upon the roots of the tree.

Once the crab tree was planted, we had a small reception in the school’s social room, which was catered by Inspiration Kitchens. This gave the youth a great chance to meet and to talk with the Police and Firefighters about their experiences.
We are grateful for the many acts of bravery by those heroes that perished and we hope to keep their memory alive for generations to come.
