Last Thursday the Bike/Walk Ambassadors and the good folks from Recovery Bike Shop were on hand at Edison’s 5th annual back-to-school BBQ to help Green Community Schools roll out its new bike/walk initiative at Edison High School. Students made smoothies with an awesome bike-powered blender (courtesy of the Bike/Walk Ambassadors) and were put through a brain injury simulation activity demonstrating the importance of wearing a helmet while cycling (see video below!).
Students partake in a brain injury simulation.
The crew from Recovery Bike Shop kindly offered free mini bike tune-ups to students and staff, and gladly lent their infinite biking wisdom to burgeoning bikers on-hand. While Edison’s bike/walk initiative is still in its infancy, the school hopes to promote human-powered transportation as a way to stay fit, save money, and protect the environment. Next up: the Bike/Walk Ambassadors will be doing a series of seminars on bike safety and maintenance for Edison staff.
A huge thank you to both Recovery Bike Shop and the Bike/Walk Ambassadors for their help and support!
